What is it?
Target shooting is an outdoor sport that covers three disciplines including shotgun, pistol and rifle, and includes sub-disciplines such as clay pigeon shooting, and a new activity called target sprint.
So, whether you fancy ‘smashing’ some clays, slowing it down for some precision shooting, or combining the outdoors, shooting and some cardio through target sprint, there is something available for you.
Why is it good for me?
Target shooting is accessible and adaptable to meet the needs of all ages and abilities.
It’s great for improving focus, concentration and arm strength. It’s also a social sport, with great opportunities to meet new people and learn new skills.
How much does it cost?
Costs and equipment requirements vary depending on the discipline.
Clubs and shooting grounds will provide guns as part of tuition, which range from a few pounds for rifle and pistol activity, to £50 for clay pigeon shooting.
What equipment do I need?
Shotgun, ammunition and clay targets will all be provided by the shooting ground, along with safety gear, which includes hearing and eye protection.
If you want to progress in the sport and continue shooting outside of lessons, you will need to apply to your local police firearms licensing department for a shotgun certificate.
