What is it?
One of the world’s most popular sports, basketball is played between two teams of five, with the aim being to throw the ball in your opponent’s basket. Shots from open play count as two points, unless they are released from outside the ‘three point arc’, in which case they are worth three points. Players are able to move freely about the court at all times, except the player with the ball, who may only move if they ‘dribble’ by bouncing the ball.

How much does it cost?
Dependent on the club and coach, taster sessions can start from as little as £4 for court hire. If you play for a club you will often have to pay ‘subs’ for a year that will cover the court, referee, and coaching costs. You may also have to buy kit.
