What is it?
Gymnastics isn’t just one sport, it’s a whole range of different types and for all ages and abilities. If you’re looking for a fresh way to work out or a new challenge, British Gymnastics can help. Here are a few options, all designed to bring a little gymnastics into your life:
Adult gymnastics is really taking off with more and more clubs offering sessions dedicated to adults and beginners. Adult gymnastics provides a new opportunity to try out an amazing sport.
MYClub is just for ages 13 to 19 and designed to give total control over your sessions. You call the shots, whether it’s learning how to backflip or creating an awesome team display.
The newest form is FreeG, freestyle gymnastics – it’s gymnastics but not as you know it. Combining elements from martial arts and stunt performance as well as gymnastics, there are no rules or competitions, it’s 100% freestyle.
Why is it good for me?
Some people do gymnastics to improve their fitness, others enjoy being competitive. But by far the biggest reason is the fun factor as well as getting a kick out of learning new skills. There’s always a great atmosphere when people are practicing and training together. And learning how to do somersaults, flips and tricks just feels good.
Best of all, you don’t have to go out in the cold and rain!
How much does it cost?
Sessions start from around £3.50. You don’t have to be a member before you start and if you decide gymnastics is for you, you can become a member of the club and British Gymnastics. Membership will vary according to your age, but typically costs between £20 and £40 annually.
What equipment do I need?
Getting involved in gymnastics couldn’t be easier. You don’t need any special equipment, just your usual comfortable sportswear to get started. You’ll find there are clubs in almost every town and city across Britain, running sessions for every age and ability.
