Next phase of Bodyform and Studio You collaboration launched

4th October 2023

Free education resources now available to support teachers so that more girls can enjoy PE while on their period.

We're excited to be entering the next phase of the Bodyform and Studio You collaboration with the launch of a new online education resource hub.

This summer, our award-winning Studio You platform joined forces with leading period care brand Bodyform on a new campaign aimed at helping teenage girls overcome the barriers that stop them getting active.

With a mission to ensure that no girl is held back by her period, the partnership has now released a series of online educational resources that can be downloaded for free from the Studio You hub.

And with periods the number one barrier to girls taking part in more sport, physical activity and PE at school*, our head of campaign activation, Claire Edwards, welcomes the next phase of the initiative.

“These resources are testament to the great work Studio You is doing with Bodyform, to give girls the right education, encouragement and coping strategies so they can enjoy sport and physical activity regardless of whether they are on their period,” she said.

“PE lessons offer an informal environment to support more traditional curriculum subjects such as biology, to educate students about the menstrual cycle, period products and the benefits of exercising in managing period symptoms.

“With over 50% of schools across England accessing Studio You to shape PE lessons, we hope these online resources will help PE teachers support students to feel empowered to be active even when they’re on their period.”

With research revealing that nearly half (47%) of girls aged 14-25 worry about having their period while exercising, and 55% of girls aged 11-16 not meeting the government's physical activity guidelines, the launch of the new online tools couldn’t come at a better time.

And, according to the Youth Sport Trust, two thirds of girls haven’t received any information or education about periods during their PE lesson**, yet 32% of girls said access to sanitary products and information would improve their experience in PE when on their period*.

Bodyform x Studio You - supporting students with periods in PE

Bodyform's brand manager, Alexandra Fisher, believes the launch of the online hub is a move to be celebrated.

“The development of these resources, in partnership with Studio You, marks another step forward in our quest to help young women be their best selves and live fearlessly, regardless of whether they are on their period,” she said.

“It can be a difficult barrier to overcome when dealing with teen girls who may not yet feel fully comfortable with their changing bodies, but supporting teachers to arm themselves with the facts, and adopt an inclusive approach, is a good place to start.”

Designed to help teachers feel more confident in making their lessons comfortable for girls on their period, the educational materials and videos are available for free to all secondary schools in England via the Studio You platform.

There’s also information for students to discover more about periods on the Bodyform website, giving them the confidence to enjoy exercise and movement, regardless of their menstrual cycle.
