Nordic Walking

Using specially designed poles to enhance your natural walking experience, nordic walking adapts a technique that is similar to the upper body action of classic cross country skiing.

It is a whole body exercise that can be enjoyed at many levels, from walking for health, to athletic Nordic running.

Why is it good for me?

Nordic walking poles give your whole upper body a workout while helping you to walk faster for longer. It’s a great way to strengthen core muscles and improve posture.

Being outdoors is a great way to get fit and active, you’ll meet new people, have the chance to chat and enjoy getting back to nature.

How much does it cost?

Nordic walking classes cost around £5, and the poles are usually included. Some places offer free taster sessions.

What equipment do I need?

Comfortable outdoor clothing, trainers if it’s dry or a walking shoe if it’s wet, layers are a great idea and if it’s raining you will need waterproofs.

Most instructors will provide Nordic walking poles for you, or you could buy your own from around £60 a pair.
